Air Quality
We offer an experienced, professional air quality assessment service. Air quality assessments are generally required to support planning applications, as part of the environmental impact assessment for new developments. This is to protect future residents and the environment from poor air quality.
We’ve have experience of odour assessments for many commercial operations including poultry and livestock farms, livery yards, spray painting cars, commercial restaurant and hotel kitchens and fast food outlets, material recycling units, waste management and incineration.
Air Quality Assessment for Planning Applications
If your project is likely to be located within an air quality zone or pose a risk to the quality of air that other experience it is likely that the local authority Planning department will set a condition to evaluate the potential risk to the local environment of reduced air quality.
Unfortunately, housing land is becoming increasingly scare and as such, the combination of poor air quality in urban areas and the increase in demand for housing areas has led to an increase in the development of land located close to or within poor air quality areas. The local authority therefore has to consider such sites on their merits, the Planning Officers have to be presented with reassurance that the air quality for the developments future residents will be adequately protected, as well as recognising the impact of the construction phase on the existing local environment residents. For such sites, the local authorities Environmental Health department often requires an Air Quality Impact Assessment to be supplied at planning stage. Air Quality is a key consideration when a development is located within a local authorities designated Air Quality Management Area (AQMAs).
Where a residential development site is located in an AQMA zone or be subject to an existing particulate source then our consultants can assist. As can our consultants where a commercial site is likely to either cause particulates to impact on its surroundings. Our consultants, headed by our Director, a former Environmental Health Officer, are well placed to engage with the Council planning and environmental health teams to put forward and agree the assessment methodology. Dependent on the agreed methodology either a Desk Based assessment, or a Site Survey will be required; we are experienced in both.
